Pittsburgh Fireworks
What to do in a Pittsburgh summer? “Leave”, many may say. But besides that, here are three fun ways to spend time in the Steel City.
Take in a Pirates home game
While there are certainly other cities where you are more likely to see a home team win a game, Pittsburgh’s PNC Park is one of the prettiest stadiums in the MLB. Built on the north-shore of the city about 20 years ago, PNC Park features a relatively new stadium layout with breathtaking views of the downtown skyline. Framed by the three sister bridges (the yellow ones), PNC park provides one of the best vantage points of the city. Some cool things to note are that the Pirates do regular giveaways and have regular firework nights during the summer. Also, watching a Paul Skenes home game is entertaining, and brings a more enthusiastic crowd, with 100+ mph pitches from the first inning.
Visit Fallingwater
Architecture, history and nature lovers alike will love to visit the Fallingwater House. Designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935, Fallingwater integrates some of the most striking features of the Laurel Highlands Hills into a fully functional house. Along with often being regarded as Wright’s most iconic piece, Fallingwater has made its way onto the UNESCO World Heritage Site list (there are only 26 World Heritage Sites in the entire US)!. A tour of the grounds gives an excellent introduction to the history of Fallingwater and gives an excellent opportunity for nature photography.

City Fireworks
July 4th provides a cool opportunity in Pittsburgh. While many know of the grand fireworks performances in DC or NYC, not many think of Pittsburgh as an iconic location to spend independence day. Make no mistake, the Pittsburgh skyline compliments one of the greatest firework displays in the nation. For spectators: enjoy the event and additional festivities at Point State Park. For photographers: take the Duquesne Incline up Mount Washington and walk west along the ridgeline to find a perfect place to set up a tripod. Make sure to get there early (up to 2 hours before) to get a front row spot and stay until the end for the fireworks finale!
